Brain breaks

Four Corners

Students tiptoe to one of four labeled corners while a caller with eyes closed picks a corner. Anyone standing there is out. A classic indoor recess game that also works as a review game.

How to play Four Corners

  1. Label the four corners of the room 1, 2, 3 and 4 (or with colors or answer letters A to D).
  2. Pick one student to be the caller. They sit in the middle, close their eyes and count down slowly from 10.
  3. While the caller counts, everyone else quietly walks to a corner.
  4. When the count ends, the caller (eyes still closed) names a corner. Everyone in that corner sits down.
  5. Repeat until one student is left. That student becomes the next caller.

Variations

  • Review version: read a multiple-choice question and label the corners A, B, C and D. Students walk to the corner with the answer they think is correct.
  • Opinion version: label the corners Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree and Strongly Disagree, then ask students to defend their choice.

💡 Teacher tips

  • Use the random name picker to choose the caller so it feels fair.
  • Ban running so the game stays quiet enough to play between lessons.
