Silent Ball

Students toss a soft ball around the room without making a sound. Drop it, throw badly or talk, and you sit down. It calms a class down while still feeling like a reward.

How to play Silent Ball

  1. Students stand or sit on top of their desks (only if your school allows it) spread around the room.
  2. Toss the ball to a student. From now on, nobody may talk, laugh out loud or make any noise.
  3. Students throw the ball to each other. You are out if you make a sound, drop a catchable ball, or throw one nobody could catch.
  4. Students who are out sit down and quietly watch, or become judges.
  5. Play until two or three students remain, then start a new round.

Variations

  • Speed round: students must pass within three seconds.
  • Review version: whoever catches the ball must silently write an answer on a mini whiteboard and hold it up.

πŸ’‘ Teacher tips

  • Make the teacher the final judge of "uncatchable" throws to avoid arguments.
