How to play 20 Questions

  1. The leader secretly thinks of something from the unit (an animal, a historical figure, a planet).
  2. Students take turns asking yes-or-no questions.
  3. Keep a tally of questions on the board.
  4. Anyone can make a guess on their turn, but a wrong guess counts as a question.
  5. If nobody guesses within 20 questions, the leader wins.

Variations

  • Teams: two teams take turns asking questions and race to solve it.
  • ESL: require full question forms ("Is it bigger than a car?").

πŸ’‘ Teacher tips

  • Teach good strategy: ask broad questions first to narrow things down.
